Soul

"For me the avatar is the 'physical' embodiment of the mind that controls it. The avatar is in this sense a more acccurate portrayal of one's soul than is the arbitrary real-life body."

  2. Yes indeed. And it's the core of the "strangers on a train" phenomenon too, I think: in-person anonymity is a very strong mask. A side note: that we are not naked in SL goes some way to proving that it isn't anonymous, at least not in the feelings of long-term residents.

  3. I feel my avatars are very deeply me. Also, somehow, I'm using my avatar (now avatars) as a tool for self therapy (an observation by a recent friend of mine).

I'm increasingly becoming aware of my own internal dialogue due to having that dialogue come out in my conversations with people in SL with different avatars. Especially when my avatars complain about each other :)

At first (well ok, still, as of this writing) it did feel kind of strange to be acting like two different people.

However, I am discovering that it's very useful for understanding yourself. As long as you don't forget that while your avatars maybe individuals, they're still You and not any more separate than you wish for them to be.

  4. Oh, about not being naked in SL. I'm myself primarily not naked in SL because I do not wish to repel the people who've got problems with their sexuality. Oh and of course, I also don't wish to attract the ones who are too comfortable with it.
